Future Design Seminar
Future Design Exercises is a practical exercise subject based on the co-creation workshop method that transcends the organizational barriers between universities and corporations.
For the global environment, participants will use methods from the natural sciences and humanities/social sciences to extract and organize major issues, and to co-create a scheme for solving the issues. With the goal of creating a new environmental science “Next Environment” from Doshisha University, the subject aims to develop people and human resources who can act with a bird's-eye view of the future.
Specific initiatives are listed below. | |
---|---|
1 | We will hold workshops with participation from students (mixture of science and humanities backgrounds), as well as researchers and engineers from a variety of backgrounds. Participants will anticipate the future of 10 to 20 years from now, and will create a hypothesis of social change from a variety of signs derived from current social and environmental changes. In response to these new social needs, workshop participants possessing scientific and expert knowledge will create an enormous amount of future technology ideas by using a method known as an “idea matrix” (forced reasoning), which conjugates future issues (future technologies requiring attention) listing problem awareness and hypotheses in advance. |
2 | After group discussions from the perspective of users and the perspective of developers and manufacturers, participants will select promising future technology ideas, receive constructive advice (questionnaires) from faculty members, etc., refine those ideas into technological visions which can be implemented under the envisioned hypothesis of social change, and propose specific and innovative devices (prototyping). |
In the 2024 academic year, the practical exercises will hold on the following schedule.
